The Dahlonega Rotary Club
Assisting Both Home and Abroad with Care and Compassion
The Dahlonega Rotary Club is more than just a networking organization. Through the works of the membership, we raise funds for those who have needs greater than their resources. It may be for jerseys for a Little League team or it might be providing a shelter box to a typhoon ravaged part of Africa.
Some of the causes we support are:
The Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition creates an environment that encourages literacy as a catalyst for imagination, possibility, and potential. Though the help of volunteers and generous donations, we provide children age 0-5years old books at no charge to the child or their family. With our partner, Lanier Technical School, we offer tutoring for those desiring their GED and we offer scholarships for their testing. We give detainees in our detention center the opportunity to use education as a option to change their lives and give GED training at the detention center. We work hard to have Lumpkin be a Work Ready county and make sure our 6th graders have dictionaries and thesauruses too.
Rainbow Children's Home exists to provide hope, security, and opportunity to girls ages 12 to 17 who have suffered abuse and/or neglect.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library works through the Ferst Foundation and the Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition to give age appropriate books at no charge to children from birth to age 5; starting with "The Little Engine That Could".
That promise is now Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1 billion since inception in 1982. As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, we’re working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
The Shelter Box program was started by a local Rotary club and has now grown to a world wide program. They send a box that supplies shelter, water purification, cooking and basic needs for survival to those whose lives have been totally disrupted. Since operations began in January 2001, we have helped over 800,000 people and operated in 57 countries – responding to earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, wars, volcanoes etc.
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, we focus on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, we seek to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life.
